Thick skin is pretty much a requirement for successful authors bruised and battered by iffy reviews. It doesn't take too much imagination to see that book signings can be bruising to the author psyche too. And it would probably be a good idea to bring a sweater.
A book signing in the frozen foods section of a supermarket? Bookstore employees who won't believe the author is the author, even when he shows them his picture on his books?
