If you have ever submitted a request for an item that we don't own here at Alice Baker Library, your request was probably processed through a system known as the Round Robin. Every day we would receive an endlessly circulating emailed list of books and other items wanted by the various county libraries. We would fill what requests we could, add our own requests, and send it on to the next library on the list.
With the advent of the shared (nearly) county-wide system that went live in mid-August, the Round Robin has become outmoded and superfluous. Today there was an Interlibrary Loan meeting at the county library system office in Waukesha, where besides airing the usual gripes and concerns, we also toasted the demise of the Round Robin, which added structure and stress to our days for so long.
Patrons are empowered now to do much of the requesting themselves and that IS something to celebrate! Of course, we are happy to place requests for items too, and are always here to help find elusive items.
Goodbye Round Robin...
