Back from a weekend in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania... I took a deep breath and plunged back into life at the library.
And we have a couple Big Things looming.
Big Thing #1: Our present library director is about to give birth to her first child, and we'll be losing her to the world of full-time motherhood. A new director waits in the wings...
Big Thing #2: A massive computer conversion will occur on August 10--one week from today. We will join the CAFE Consortium, uniting 13 of the 16 Waukesha County public libraries in one computer system.
Our patrons will be able to search and place holds on the offerings of all the libraries. That's 1.3 million items... And the united catalog means that we'll be able to get requested items into patron hands more quickly.
The look of the public catalog is great--patrons will really like the feel of it, and they'll love the extra features it will offer. For example, the catalog will link to a number of lists of best-sellers and award-winning titles, and offer in-depth book information, reviews, etc.
With growth comes change, and we're working at absorbing the changes CAFE membership will bring. It's going to impact our work patterns and workflow, and we ask your patience as we learn to navigate it all. We'll have a big bowl of chocolate at the desk as a de-stressing tool for all of us.
Most important, we remain a small-town library. And retaining our small-town atmosphere and personalized service is top priority with us.
