If it weren't for my kids and their friends, I might have totally descended into a world of cosy mytery books by now, populated with Miss Marple types crocheting antimacassars. I can see that tendency in myself.
But my son kept urging me to watch the movie "High Fidelity", saying it was one of his all-time favorites. And I watched it and could see why--it had my son and many other young adult males pegged dead-on. Perhaps more than they realize...
Then my daughter's boyfriend urged me to READ "High Fidelity", saying Nick Hornby was one of his favorite authors. And this guy has taste--he IS dating my daughter. So I grabbed "High Fidelity" one Friday night as I left the library. It made for a very enjoyable weekend.
So of course I'm now a Nick Hornby fan. He has a new novel just out, called A Long Way Down, which is near the top of my to-read list. He's also the subject of the latest Powell's interview, which showcases his many writing venues and cool ideas. Why is a great novel like a rock song? Check it out...
