I used to be much more purposeful and organized, but the Internet age has just about destroyed me. I'll admit to being a world-class time waster. My downfall is the blog.
Many people are keeping blogs these days, and I love the snoopy thrill of eavesdropping on someone else's life. One blog links to another and then to another, and you want to keep tabs on them all... Pretty soon a point is reached where some organization is needed.
Enter Bloglines. This site employs RSS feeds to monitor updated blogs. Without getting too techie, RSS is a type of file format that can provide short descriptions of web content and links to the full version. Many blogs and frequently updated websites offer RSS feed. Through Bloglines, you can subscribe to the RSS feeds of blogs that interest you. You can download a notifier, which sits on your screen's taskbar.
Bloglines provides a list of your subscriptions, and you can click on a link to preview latest updates, all from the Bloglines site. Neat and tidy.
Bloglines also gives you the ability to "clip" and save articles for future reference. You can also share your Bloglines subscriptions with others.
Spurl is another highly recommended service of this type. I have this one downloaded but haven't personally tested it out yet.
