Isn't it weird how you go through your life totally unaware of something or someone and suddenly the name starts popping up EVERYWHERE?
Driving home late one night, I listened on WPR to an interview with Scottish author Ian Rankin. Rankin writes police procedurals set in Edinburgh, just teeming with the life of that city. Folks were calling in sharing their love of his books, their love of Edinburgh, and their admiration of how Rankin gets it all just right. I was intrigued, to say the least. What had I been missing?
A couple days later I spent a day with my murder-mystery-loving librarian cousin and asked her about Rankin. She knew his work well and started rattling off the names of his books, thoroughly putting me in my place.
I arrived at the library Monday and placed a request for Rankin's first book--might as well start at the beginning.
And today--Powell's newsletter arrives with an interview with Mr. Rankin. If you're looking for a new mystery author, maybe this is your guy.
